Webspeed Home Remote Backup Software works like regular data backup software, with one important difference. Instead of backing up to a tape drive or other media attached to the computer on-site it sends the backups encrypted over your Broadband ADSL connection to our secure backup server thus storing your backups off-site. This is usually done at night while computers are at their lowest use. Backups can also be done on-demand at any time.

Remote Backup typically gets a 50-75% compression ratio on your data and our fees are based on the total amount of disk space used on our servers--not the size of the data on your computers.

Webspeed have a selection of storage capacities to fit your needs. Your account will be set to the quota you purchase. If you go over your quota, you will automatically be upgraded to the next level.

How much space you need for backup depends on what types and what size your important files are. You should only backup files that are irreplaceable. These would be files that you have created such as:
  • documents such as letters, spreadsheets and accounts data files
  • contacts and addresses files
  • digital pictures
  • any other such personal files
Files that you should not backup would be:
  • operating system files
  • program files which you usually have on original installation CD

Once setup backups are completely automatic. In fact, you may even forget it’s working. Most people leave their most important files to fate everyday and don’t realize it. With individuals depending more and more on the data stored on their computers hard drives, proper backups are becoming much more critical.

Webspeed Home Remote Backup provides a complete solution to keeping your important files backed up and secure:
  • Security - Backups are encrypted before they are transferred to our secure servers for off-site storage. Tape backups are usually not encrypted so if a tape is 'misplaced' or stolen anyone can gain access to your critical data.
  • Encryption - All files are compressed and encrypted using Blowfish encryption before it is transmitted from the your computer. Only you know the encryption "key." The key is not transmitted with the backup. Backups cannot be viewed, decrypted, or used in any way by anyone including Webspeed technical staff. Blowfish encryption has never been broken by a hacker.
  • Reliability - Backups are done on a schedule automatically. No tapes to remember, no tapes to take home.
  • Accurate - The correct files are backed up as Remote Back up re-evaluates the computer system, adding files to the backup as needed.
  • Redundancy - multiple copies of the same files at different points in their development, called versions are stored. Using Remote backups version control system, it is easy to restore your files to any stored version.
  • Offsite storage - Remote backup stores your valuable data safely off-site so if you have a fire, flood or other disaster your backups are not destroyed along with everything else.
  • The user interface is easy to use with the familiar look and feel of windows.
