Static IP Addresses

A static IP address is a number (in the form of a dotted quad) that is assigned to a computer to be its permanent address on the Internet. Computers use IP addresses to locate and talk to each other on the Internet, much the same way people use phone numbers to locate and talk to one another on the telephone.

Static IP addresses allow you to host your own Website or run your own e-mail servers at your home or business. You can also use them to remotely access your computers over the Internet (for example, telnet or FTP).

The Cost

You can buy a single IP address or a block of 8 IP addresses, 5 of which may be used for devices such as servers; first address identifies all 'subnet' IP addresses and the last address is the 'subnet broadcast address', 1 further address identifies the ADSL router, leaving 5 free.

All customers requesting 8 Static IP Addresses are required to complete a standard RIPE application form justifying the use of a block of 8 addresses.
